⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Jim Yung is a shy CIA analyst who gets exposed to a mysterious alien dust that gives him superpowers instead of turning him into a monster. He’s whisked away to a secret underground base where he’s trained by an organization led by the mysterious Alastair. Jim has to master his new abilities—including some tactical Tai Chi—to prepare for an imminent alien invasion that threatens the entire planet. It’s a classic "zero to hero" story wrapped in an indie sci-fi shell. THE PROS Michael Dorn is a win. Having a sci-fi legend like Worf himself playing the mentor role gives the film some much-needed weight. The concept of using "dust" as a power source is punchy and a bit different from the usual gamma radiation or spider bites. For an independent film, the visual effects are epic and look far more expensive than they actually are. It’s a decent watch because it genuinely tries to build a unique mythology rather than just copying a Marvel script line for line. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the dialogue can feel stilted and clunky in places. Derek Ting wears three hats as writer, director, and star, and while his ambition is epic, the pacing feels sluggish during the long training sequences.
