Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 3/10 THE SUMMARY Matt Stifler (Tad Hilgenbrinck), the younger and equally obnoxious brother of the legendary Steve Stifler, is desperate to cement his own legacy as a "Stifmeister." After a high-school prank involving a vacuum and a smoke machine goes sideways, he’s sentenced to spend his summer at band camp as punishment. Initially planning to use hidden cameras to film a "Girls Gone Wild" style video for his brother’s production company, Matt finds himself actually bonding with the "band geeks" he previously bullied. As he falls for the focused band leader Elyse (Arielle Kebbel), he has to decide between following the family business of being a total prick or helping the school win the big "band-off" against their preppy rivals. THE PROS Tad Hilgenbrinck does a winner of a job mimicking Seann William Scott’s mannerisms, managing to look and act the part even if the script is a bit of a damp squib. Arielle Kebbel is pure quality as Elyse, providing a sincere and likable performance that keeps the film from completely sinking. It’s a 3/10 because the return of Eugene Levy as Jim’s Dad is a genuine belter; even with limited screen time, his facial expressions and dry delivery are absolute business. Seeing Chris Owen return as "The Sherminator"—now a guidance counselor—is a punchy bit of nostalgia for fans of the original trilogy. The "band-off" finale has some decent energy and is a winner for its lighthearted, underdog spirit. THE CONS It earns a 3/10 because Matt Stifler is often a complete asshole, making it a sincere struggle to root for his redemption or his romance. The jokes are frequently quality-deficient, relying on gross-out humor that feels forced and predictable rather than clever or shocking. It misses a higher mark because the "hidden camera" plot is a bit of a head—well, it’s actually quite creepy and hasn't aged well at all. The pacing can feel incredibly sluggish in the middle act, with a lot of filler scenes that don’t move the story forward. However, the actual music heard in the film was recorded by professional studio musicians to ensure it sounded absolute business for the soundtrack.• Porn Star Cameo: The camp nurse is played by 80s adult film star Ginger Lynn.
