⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Scott Lang is living his best life as a celebrity author until his daughter, Cassie, accidentally sends a signal to the Quantum Realm. The whole family gets sucked into a subatomic universe that looks like a neon fever dream. They discover that Janet van Dyne has been hiding a massive secret: she spent decades fighting alongside (and then against) Kang the Conqueror, a time-traveling tyrant trapped in the realm. Scott has to pull off a heist for a multiversal power core while leading a rebellion of weird jelly-creatures and freedom fighters to stop Kang from escaping and erasing entire timelines. THE PROS Jonathan Majors is epic status as Kang; he brings a quality, menacing weight to the role that makes you actually believe he’s a multiversal threat. Paul Rudd is a total win as always, delivering his signature banter even when faced with millions of variants of himself. The Quantum Realm world-building is punchy and creative, featuring sentient ooze and buildings that are actually living organisms. It’s a 6/10 because it’s a fun, high-concept sci-fi adventure that feels like a quality episode of 'Star Trek' on acid. Michelle Pfeiffer finally gets a sincere amount of screen time, and she absolutely carries the emotional weight of the middle act. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because the "Ant-Man" charm is a bit of a damp squib this time; the street-level humor of the first two is replaced by a green-screen void that feels quality-deficient in spots. M.O.D.O.K. is a bit of a head-scra—I mean, he’s a bit of a weird choice, looking more like a joke than a real threat. The pacing can feel sluggish during the heavy exposition about timelines and "Probability Storms." It misses a 7/10 because it feels more like a feature-length trailer for the next Avengers movie than a standalone story, and the Wasp is pushed so far into the background she barely has a dozen lines. THE VERDICT A 6/10. Decent for a one-time watch to see the setup for the next big MCU era. It’s a winner for Kang and the bizarre visuals. Go and watch it to see Scott Lang fight his own variants—it’s quality chaos.
