Overview

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Tony Stark, still twitchy from the New York invasion, tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program using the scepter’s gem. Instead, he accidentally births Ultron—a sentient AI with a God complex and James Spader’s sarcastic voice. Ultron decides the only way to save Earth is to delete humanity, starting with the Avengers. He recruits the Maximoff twins, who have a grudge against Stark, and heads to Sokovia to turn a city into a meteor. The Avengers have to reunite, survive some nasty mental hallucinations from Scarlet Witch, and birth a synthetic hero named Vision to stop a global "extinction level event." THE PROS James Spader as Ultron is a total win; he’s not just a robot, he’s an arrogant, temperamental, and hilarious villain with quality dialogue. The Hulkbuster scrap in Johannesburg is epic status and arguably one of the best "heavy hitter" fights in the MCU. It’s an 8/10 because it dives into the team’s dynamics, especially giving Hawkeye a sincere and much-needed backstory at the farmhouse. The introduction of Vision is a winner—his "lifting Mjolnir" moment is pure quality and still one of the best theater-reaction scenes in the franchise. The opening "long take" through the forest is punchy and shows the team at their peak. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because it’s a bit overstuffed; it tries to set up about five future movies at once, making the pacing feel slightly sluggish in the middle. The "Thor in a cave" subplot is a bit of a damp squib and feels like it was edited down too much. It misses a 9/10 mark because it follows the same "army of nameless robots" finale as the first movie, which feels a bit quality-deficient compared to the more personal stakes of 'Civil War'. Also, Quicksilver's "didn't see that coming" exit feels a bit rushed and lacked the punchy impact it deserved. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and highly recommended for the character banter alone—the party scene with the hammer is quality. It’s a winner for the introduction of Wanda and Vision. Go and watch it to see the Avengers at their most "team-like" before they all started fighting each other—it’s pure quality entertainment. He was so tall that he had to wear a rig with two red balls on sticks above his head so the other actors knew where to look when talking to the 8-foot robot.• The "Hidden" Pregnancy: Scarlett Johansson was pregnant during filming, which is why she’s often seen behind tables or strategically placed objects. The production had to use three different stunt doubles for her, who looked so much like her that the other actors often started conversations with the wrong person.• Digital Dining: In the scenes featuring the high-tech monitors in the Avengers' new lab and the digital readouts on the Quinjet, the scrolling "encryption" data once again contains a hidden sushi recipe—the favorite recurring easter egg of the VFX crew that survived all the way from the first 'X-Men'. THE VIBE Like a massive party that ends in a brawl. It smells like hydraulic fluid, fresh rain on a farm, and burnt vibranium.
