⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Baby is a getaway driver with tinnitus who needs a constant soundtrack to drown out the "hum in the drum." He works for Doc (Kevin Spacey), a crime boss who keeps him on a short leash. After meeting a waitress named Debora, Baby tries to go straight, but the criminal underworld—mostly in the form of a twitchy Jamie Foxx and a menacing Jon Hamm—isn't ready to let him "choose life" just yet. It’s a high-speed heist flick where every gunshot, gear shift, and coffee cup tap is synced perfectly to the music. THE PROS The editing is a "Guaranteed Banger." Edgar Wright directed this like a two-hour music video where the world breathes in time with the beat. The opening getaway to "Bellbottoms" is pure cinematic joy, and the foot chase synced to "Hocus Pocus" is a technical marvel. It’s stylish, vibrant, and incredibly creative. Jon Hamm also delivers a surprisingly terrifying performance as a "cool guy" who snaps, proving he’s more than just a suit. It’s a movie that feels alive in a way most action films don't. THE CONS The dialogue can occasionally veer into "too cool for school" territory, feeling a bit rehearsed rather than natural. Ansel Elgort is fine as the lead, but he’s often outshone by the colorful supporting cast. Also, the third act takes a very dark, almost slasher-movie turn that feels a bit disconnected from the breezy, rhythmic fun of the first half. It trades its cleverness for a standard "boss fight" finale that doesn't quite live up to the brilliance of the earlier car chases. THE VERDICT An 8/10 because it’s a masterclass in style and synchronization. It’s a blast to watch (and listen to), but it lacks the narrative depth of a 9/10 masterpiece. It’s the ultimate "cool" movie for a late-night session—just make sure you have a good sound system, or the "hum" might get to you too. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA Most of the driving stunts were done for real. In the opening scene, the "180-in-and-out" move between the trucks was actually performed by a stunt driver, not CGI. Also, the "Tequila" shootout took four days to film because every single gunshot had to be perfectly timed to the drum beats in the song. If you look closely at the graffiti in the background during the "Harlem Shuffle" walk, the lyrics of the song appear on the walls exactly as they are sung. THE VIBE Like a perfectly curated Spotify playlist coming to life. It’s rhythmic, upbeat, and makes you want to drive slightly over the speed limit on your way home. Still no 10/10! The vault remains sealed. Are we going back to the "Gritty Crime" drawer or staying in the "High-Speed" lane?
