⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Mike Lowrey is still living life in the fast lane, while Marcus Burnett is ready to trade his badge for a rocking chair and grandpa duties. Their retirement plans are blown apart when a skilled assassin from Mike’s past crops up to settle an old blood feud. To stay alive, the duo has to team up with AMMO—a new-school, tech-savvy tactical unit—to track down a vengeful cartel leader. It’s a mix of mid-life crises and high-octane shootouts on the streets of Miami. THE PROS The chemistry between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is a win; they slip back into their roles like they never left. It’s a good movie because it actually gives the characters some emotional depth, dealing with aging and legacy instead of just mindless explosions. The action is punchy and the cinematography keeps that glossy, vibrant Miami glow that the franchise is known for. The addition of the AMMO team brings a fresh dynamic that stops the "old cop" tropes from feeling sluggish. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the "secret past" plot twist is a bit of a damp squib and feels like something out of a soap opera. It misses the 9/10 mark because the humor sometimes leans a bit too hard on Marcus being old, which gets repetitive. Some of the CGI during the big finale looks a bit thin compared to the practical stunts in the earlier films. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and highly recommended if you grew up with the first two. It’s a winner for a movie night and a surprisingly solid comeback. Go and watch it for the motorcycle chase—it’s epic. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Directorial Handover: This was the first film in the series not directed by Michael Bay. Instead, it was helmed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who were huge fans of the originals and won the job after presenting a "lookbook" that captured the franchise's vibe. • Cameo Alert: Michael Bay does make a brief appearance in the film as the wedding MC, officially passing the torch to the new directors. • Title Trouble: Will Smith originally wanted to call the film "Bad Boys 4 Life," but they realized that would be confusing since it was actually the third movie. They saved the play on the number 4 for the 2024 sequel. THE VIBE Like a reunion with your loudest mates. It smells like expensive cologne, Cuban coffee, and burning rubber.
