⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Nearly 5,000 years ago, Teth-Adam was granted the powers of the gods to liberate the city of Kahndaq from a tyrant, only to be imprisoned for using those powers for vengeance. In the present day, he is accidentally freed by an archaeologist and finds his homeland occupied by a high-tech mercenary group called Intergang. As Adam begins "cleaning up" the city with lethal force, the Justice Society of America—led by Hawkman and Dr. Fate—arrives to take him down. However, both sides have to pull together when a much darker, demonic threat emerges from Kahndaq's ancient past. THE PROS Pierce Brosnan is a total win as Dr. Fate; he brings a weary, sophisticated gravitas that outshines everyone else on screen. The action is punchy and moves at a breakneck speed, making it a decent watch if you just want to see The Rock fly through buildings and vaporize soldiers with lightning. Aldis Hodge is epic as Hawkman, providing a quality moral foil to Adam’s "kill first, ask questions later" philosophy. It’s a solid bit of fun because it finally brings the Justice Society to the big screen with some impressive, high-budget visual effects that make their powers look spectacular. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the script is a bit of a damp squib, relying on generic superhero tropes and some seriously cringey dialogue from the younger characters. The pacing can feel slightly sluggish in the middle act during the endless debates about "what makes a hero." It misses an 8/10 mark because the main villain, Sabbac, is a bit of a CGI eyesore and lacks any real depth or personality. The "skateboard kid" subplot also feels a bit forced, like it was lifted from a different, much cheesier movie. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and highly recommended if you want a popcorn flick that doesn't require much thinking. It’s a winner for the Dr. Fate scenes and the sheer spectacle of the fights.
