⭐️Insomniacs Rating: 4/10 THE SUMMARY Captain Jordan Wright (Sutherland) and his elite squad take a break from shooting things in Syria to attend a wedding in rural Mexico. The party is cut short when a ruthless cartel leader named Baker decides to crash the reception with a small army. What follows is a predictable "cat and mouse" game in the desert where the soldiers have to protect civilians while being vastly outgunned by guys who clearly didn't get an invite to the ceremony. THE PROS Kiefer Sutherland can do this role in his sleep, and he still brings that gravelly authority that makes you want to stand at attention. There’s one decent shootout on a dark road that actually uses the geography of the landscape well, proving that director Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) at least knows where to put a camera during an explosion. THE CONS It takes nearly an hour for anything interesting to actually happen. We spend way too much time watching secondary characters we don't care about "bond" over tequila, only for them to become cannon fodder ten minutes later. The cartel villains are straight out of a 90s action movie—lots of snarling and stalking around mansions but zero actual personality. It’s 100 minutes of wheel-spinning for 20 minutes of "okay" action. THE VERDICT A 4/10. It’s the kind of movie you’ll find on a streaming service on a Tuesday night and forget you watched by Wednesday morning. If you’re a Kiefer superfan, it might pass the time, but for everyone else, it’s a total misfire. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA The movie was originally titled Sierra Madre before someone realized Brothers Under Fire sounded much more like a generic Dad-thriller. Also, Kiefer Sutherland’s character is a "Captain," which is actually a demotion from his days as Director of Field Ops in 24—times are tough even for action legends. THE VIBE Bargain bin Jack Bauer. It feels like a rejected pilot for a CBS military drama that was salvaged with a higher gore budget. Best watched while doing literally anything else, like folding laundry or contemplating why you didn't just rewatch John Wick.
