    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Young David is a simple shepherd boy whose world changes forever when a prophet anoints him as the future King of Israel. This animated musical follows his journey from the quiet hills of Bethlehem to the front lines of a war against the Philistines. Armed with nothing but a sling and a massive amount of faith, David faces the towering giant Goliath in a battle that will define the fate of a nation. As he rises to fame, he has to navigate the jealous rage of King Saul and the heavy burden of his own destiny. It’s a colorful, song-filled retelling of the biblical epic, focusing on David’s early years and his eventual ascent to the throne. THE PROS The animation from Sunrise Animation Studios is quality—the world looks vibrant and the lighting in the natural landscapes is genuinely beautiful. Phil Wickham and Brandon Engman share the role of David, bringing a sincere and melodic energy to the character's songs. It’s a 7/10 because it captures the "epic" scale of the story without losing the family-friendly charm, making it a winner for an all-ages audience. Asim Chaudhry as King Achish is a quality addition, providing some much-needed humor in a story that can get quite heavy. The music by Joseph Trapanese and Jonas Myrin is punchy and sticks with you long after the credits roll, especially the "I Will Not Be Afraid" sequence. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the narrative tries to cover so much ground that it can feel slightly sluggish in the second half as it rushes through David’s time running from Saul. While the animation is quality, the character designs are quite stylized, which might feel a bit quality-deficient to those used to the hyper-realism of modern Pixar or DreamWorks. It misses an 8/10 mark because it smooths over some of the grit and complexity of the original source material, making it feel a bit like a "Sunday School" version of the story.
