Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Felonius Gru is a veteran supervillain whose ego is bruised by a younger, nerdiest rival named Vector. To prove he’s still top dog, Gru hatches a plan to steal the Moon. The catch? He needs a shrink ray locked inside Vector’s fortress. He adopts three orphan girls—Margo, Edith, and Agnes—to use as pawns in his heist, but his plan hits a snag when he starts enjoying being a dad. THE PROS This is a win because it’s a rare animated film where the villain is the lead. The character design is epic; Gru looks like a giant penguin and Vector is a punchy parody of a tech-bro. The Minions are a total belter and stole the show back in 2010. It’s highly recommended because the humor is smart, dry, and avoids being too kiddy. It’s a 9/10 because it balances the slapstick with heart that doesn’t feel forced. THE CONS The "Bank of Evil" scenes are a bit confusing and drag the pacing slightly in the first act. It misses the 10/10 mark because some supporting characters, like the orphanage owner Miss Hattie, are a bit of a damp squib. The animation was great for its time but feels simple compared to modern blockbusters. THE VERDICT A 9/10. Epic status and a vault essential. It’s the best in the franchise and a total belter for a movie night. Go and watch it for the "It's so fluffy!" moment—it’s iconic. He tried out several voices for his kids, and this was the only one that made them laugh.• The Minions weren't in the original script.
