Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 1/10 THE SUMMARY Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) returns, but he’s basically just the "manager" now. When one of his top operatives, Shu Ren (Huang Xiaoming), is kidnapped and thrown into "HADES"—a futuristic, automated, ever-shifting prison controlled by an AI named Galileo—Breslin has to assemble a team (including Dave Bautista) to find it and break him out. Instead of the gritty, tactical logic of the first film, we get "Force Fields," robot guards, and a prison that forces inmates to fight for "Sanctuary" time in a virtual reality room. It’s a neon-soaked disaster that feels less like a prison break and more like a fever dream in a laser-tag arena. THE PROS If you squint really hard, some of the hand-to-hand combat from Huang Xiaoming is decent. He’s the actual lead of the movie, and he handles the martial arts choreography with some real effort. Dave Bautista also shows up for a few minutes to look cool and shoot things, which provides a brief moment of "Oh yeah, I recognize that guy." That’s about as far as the compliments go. THE CONS This isn't just a bad sequel; it’s an "Abomination." The clever, "how-to-beat-the-system" puzzles of the original are replaced by techno-babble and cheap-looking CGI. The lighting is so aggressively blue and green you’ll feel like you’re watching a movie inside a broken Xbox. Stallone and Bautista are essentially glorified cameos used to sell the DVD cover—they were on set for probably less than a week combined. The geography of the prison makes zero sense, the "automated" guards look like people in plastic suits, and the plot twist is visible from Mars. It’s a 1/10 because it fails at being a movie, a sequel, or even a fun "so-bad-it's-good" experience. It’s just... boring. THE VERDICT Avoid at all costs. This is not a "Guaranteed Banger." It is "The Garbage." Even Sylvester Stallone publicly called it the "most horribly produced film" of his career and "beyond awful." When the guy whose name is on the poster tells you to stay away, you should probably listen. It’s a Masterpiece of how to ruin a perfectly good franchise in 96 minutes. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA Stallone was so furious with how this movie turned out that he used it as motivation to make the third film, The Extractors, just to "fix" the reputation of the series. The film was shot in a staggering 17 days, which explains why the camera never stays still—the director was likely literally running to the next setup. Fun fact: Despite being panned globally, it was a massive financial success in China, which is the only reason the third movie even got a green light. THE VIBE Like a cheap energy drink—fluorescent, chemical, and leaves you with a headache and a bad taste in your mouth.
