⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Reed Richards and Sue Storm are finally trying to get married, but their wedding is crashed by a mysterious silver entity that’s punching massive holes into the Earth’s crust. This "Silver Surfer" is the herald for Galactus, a cosmic entity that eats planets for breakfast. The Fantastic Four have to team up with their old enemy, a freshly escaped Victor Von Doom, to stop the world from becoming a cosmic snack. Along the way, Johnny Storm discovers that touching the Surfer has swapped his powers with his teammates, leading to some high-altitude chaos. THE PROS Doug Jones is a total win as the Silver Surfer; his physical performance combined with Laurence Fishburne’s voice creates an epic, ethereal presence that still holds up. The chemistry between the core four remains quality, especially the bickering between Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. The action is punchy and moves at a fast clip, making it a decent watch for a Saturday afternoon. It’s a 7/10 because it captures that bright, optimistic "comic book" feel that modern movies often trade for grit. The sequence where Johnny chases the Surfer through the streets of New York is a winner. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the depiction of Galactus as a giant space cloud is a massive damp squib for fans who wanted to see the iconic purple-helmeted planet-eater. The plot is a bit thin and can feel slightly sluggish during the wedding-prep subplots that go nowhere. It misses a higher mark because the resolution to the Galactus threat feels rushed and quality-deficient, ending the movie just as it feels like it’s getting started. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and highly recommended if you want a fun, lighthearted superhero flick that doesn't take itself too seriously. It’s a winner for the Silver Surfer scenes alone. Go and watch it for Chris Evans—you can see the future Captain America starting to shine through the cockiness. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Double Duty: Doug Jones, who played the physical form of the Surfer, actually learned the character's lines and performed them on set to help the other actors, even though he knew his voice would be dubbed by Laurence Fishburne later.• Speeding Ticket: To film the car chase on the streets of London, the production actually managed to shut down the London Eye and parts of the South Bank, which is a rare feat for a Hollywood blockbuster.• Power Swap: The "power-swapping" plot point was added late in the script to give the actors a chance to play different roles and to liven up the dynamics between the team members. THE VIBE Like a bright Sunday morning cartoon. It smells like hair gel, ozone, and wedding cake.
