Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Four ambitious explorers and their arrogant benefactor, Victor Von Doom, head into space to study a cosmic radiation storm. Things go south, the storm hits them, and they return to Earth with DNA that’s been scrambled like eggs. Reed Richards can stretch like rubber, Sue Storm can vanish, Johnny Storm is a human torch, and Ben Grimm has turned into a massive orange rock. As they struggle with their new "celebrity" status and Ben’s depression over his appearance, a metallic Von Doom starts plotting their downfall from his high-rise office. THE PROS The casting of the core four is a total win. Chris Evans is epic as the cocky Johnny Storm, and Michael Chiklis brings a quality, heartbreaking soul to The Thing despite being buried in pounds of orange latex. It’s a decent watch because it leans into the "found family" dynamic that makes the comics work. The action is punchy, especially the fire-truck rescue on the bridge, which shows off their powers in a way that feels like a classic comic panel come to life. It’s a winner for its bright, 2000s energy that doesn't try to be too dark. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the plot is a bit of a damp squib—it’s essentially an origin story where not much actually happens until the very end. Julian McMahon’s Dr. Doom feels a bit quality-deficient compared to his comic counterpart; he’s more of a jealous businessman than a terrifying sorcerer-king. The pacing can feel slightly sluggish as it spends a lot of time on the team bickering in their apartment rather than actually being superheroes. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and highly recommended if you want a nostalgic, easy-going superhero flick. It’s a winner for the chemistry between Johnny and Ben. Go and watch it for the bridge scene—it’s pure quality. THE SUMMARY
