⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Tess and Anna are a mother and daughter who couldn't be more different. Tess is a stressed-out therapist about to get remarried, and Anna is a rebellious teen who just wants to play lead guitar in her garage band. After a massive row in a Chinese restaurant, they receive a "fortune cookie" curse that makes them swap bodies. Now, Anna has to manage her mum’s high-stakes career and wedding planning, while Tess has to survive the brutal social hierarchy of high school. It’s a race against time to find a way back into their own skin before the wedding bells ring. THE PROS This is a win because of the legendary performances. Jamie Lee Curtis is a total belter—watching her act like a sulky, head-banging teenager is a celebratory explosion of comedy. Lindsay Lohan is equally sincere as the uptight mother trapped in a teen’s body. It’s highly recommended because it captures that "generation gap" tension in a way that’s punchy and relatable without being preachy. The chemistry between the two is epic status, and the "Take Me Away" battle of the bands scene is a proper belter that still holds up. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because some of the secondary characters are a bit of a head-scratcher, especially the "creepy" brother and the stereotypical restaurant staff. The pacing can feel a sincere bit sluggish in the middle when they’re just wandering through each other's houses, and the CGI during the actual "swap" looks a bit dated now. It misses the 9/10 mark because it’s a bit of a "safe" Disney remake, but it’s still a good movie that delivers exactly what you want. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and a recommendation for a nostalgia trip or a family night in. It’s a vault essential for the 2000s pop-rock vibes alone. Go and watch it for Jamie Lee Curtis playing the guitar solo—it’s brilliant. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Real Talent: Lindsay Lohan actually learned how to play the guitar for the movie. While she didn't play the final solo herself, she learned the correct fingering so it would look sincere on screen.• Casting Swap: Originally, Annette Bening was set to play the mother, but she dropped out at the last minute. Jamie Lee Curtis stepped in with only a few days to prepare and ended up getting a Golden Globe nomination for it.• Pink’s Almost-Cameo: The role of Anna was originally offered to the singer Pink, but she turned it down. Kelly Osbourne also auditioned before the role eventually went to Lohan. THE VIBE Like a locker decorated with stickers and glitter. It smells like hairspray, Chinese takeout, and teenage angst. It makes you want to buy a Fender Stratocaster, stop shouting at your parents, and realize that walking in someone else's shoes is a lot harder than it looks.
