    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY At a classic Los Angeles diner, a scruffy, wild-eyed man (Sam Rockwell) arrives claiming he’s a time traveler from a sunless, AI-ravaged future. He’s on a mission to stop a technological singularity before it starts, but he needs a very specific combination of diner patrons to pull it off. He recruits a motley crew: a grieving mother (Juno Temple), a birthday party princess (Haley Lu Richardson), and two high school teachers (Michael Peña and Zazie Beetz). Together, they embark on a chaotic, six-block trek through L.A. to find the "father of AI"—who turns out to be a nine-year-old boy. It’s a race against time, "pig-masked" mercenaries, and a world where the line between reality and an AI simulation is becoming dangerously thin. THE PROS Sam Rockwell is in top form here; he carries the film with that perfect blend of manic energy and sincere desperation that only he can pull off. Director Gore Verbinski makes a triumphant return, ditching the CGI bloat of his later 'Pirates' films for a punchy, creative style that feels like 'Black Mirror' with a sense of humor. The "flashback" segments for each character are quality, using different visual styles to explore their individual traumas and tech-fears. Haley Lu Richardson is a standout, bringing a funny, quirky lightness to the group. It’s an 8/10 because it manages to be a sincere critique of our current AI obsession without being a "head-scratcher" or getting too preachy. The action sequences—especially the chase with the pig-masked bandits—are epic status and visually inventive. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the "simulation vs. reality" plot threads can get a bit tangled in the final act, leading to a conclusion that might feel a bit quality-deficient for those wanting a straightforward ending. The pacing in the middle, while the group is debating the morality of their mission, can feel slightly sluggish compared to the high-energy opening in the diner. It misses a 9/10 mark because some of the "AI slop" monsters in the finale look a bit like a damp squib compared to the stellar practical effects used elsewhere. At 134 minutes, it’s a long sit for a sci-fi comedy, and some of the darker subplots—like the robotic clone son—don't get quite enough room to breathe. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and highly recommended for fans of 'everything everywhere' style multiversal madness. It’s a winner for Rockwell’s performance and Verbinski’s imaginative direction.
