⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 THE SUMMARY An ambitious chef (Ariana DeBose) ditches her high-end gig to open a farm-to-table restaurant in a remote, creaky estate. It’s the ultimate professional gamble, but she quickly finds out that the "farm" part involves a garden full of rotting plants and the "table" part is plagued by a ghostly former owner. As the pressure of opening night builds, she starts losing her grip on reality, battling bug infestations, sabotaged ingredients, and the feeling that she’s not the only one cooking in that kitchen. THE PROS Ariana DeBose is the heart of the film; she brings a gritty, frantic energy to the lead role that makes the stress of the culinary world feel honest. When it’s focused on the "kitchen nightmare" aspect—the burning pans, the ego clashes with investors, and the struggle for the perfect menu—it’s actually a decent thriller. The set design of the house is effectively grimy, making the transition from a fancy NYC kitchen to a bug-riddled basement feel like a visceral descent. It hits a 5 because of the performances and the strong atmosphere of isolation that keeps you wondering what’s real. THE CONS The "horror" part of this culinary horror is unfortunately undercooked. It stays at a 5 because it relies on tired tropes like creepy crawlies and whispering voices that don't land a real punch. It misses a higher mark because the shift into supernatural territory feels clunky and unearned, almost as if the film is ashamed to be a horror movie.
