⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Hubie Dubois is a sweet but incredibly cowardly deli employee who dedicates every October 31st to making sure his hometown of Salem stays safe. Despite being the absolute laughingstock of the community and the target of endless mean-spirited pranks, Hubie takes his self-appointed role as Halloween Monitor deadly seriously. When a creepy new neighbor moves in next door and a dangerous patient escapes from a nearby psychiatric hospital, people actually start going missing. Hubie realizes the danger is entirely real and has to convince the skeptical local police before everyone vanishes. THE PROS Adam Sandler brings a lovely, well-meaning charm to Hubie that keeps him likable despite his ridiculous, mumbling voice and constant screaming fits. The movie is a massive reunion for Sandler's classic comedy mates, featuring hilarious appearances from Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, and a brilliant, uncredited cameo from Ben Stiller reprising his famous role from Happy Gilmore. The autumn aesthetic is top-tier, nailing the cozy, small-town New England Halloween atmosphere perfectly with gorgeous orange lighting, crisp leaves, and tons of classic decorations. THE CONS The narrative is a bit of a mess, throwing in random subplots and a predictable mystery that doesn't hold much weight. The repetitive gag of people throwing random objects at Hubie's head wears thin incredibly quickly, and some of the cruder jokes feel completely lazy and recycled from older Happy Madison productions. THE VERDICT A solid 6/10. It is a silly, harmless, and deeply comforting seasonal comedy that delivers exactly the kind of low-stakes nonsense you expect from modern Sandler flicks. It gets a 6 because the cozy Halloween vibes are spot on and the sheer volume of familiar faces makes it a fun watch. It misses out on a higher score because the pacing drags in the middle, but it remains a great, easy-going option for a lazy October night. THE VIBE Like walking through a leaf-strewn street on a chilly October night while carrying a plastic bucket full of cheap supermarket sweets. It smells like damp earth, pumpkin spice candles, old plastic masks, and hot apple cider. Cozy, silly, and completely harmless.
