⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Ever wonder where your imaginary friends went once you traded finger paints for spreadsheets? *IF* (2024) dives into that exact mid-life crisis of the mind. It follows young Bea, a girl dealing with some heavy family stuff, who suddenly discovers she can see everyone’s abandoned "IFs" (Imaginary Friends). Teaming up with her grumpy-but-charming upstairs neighbor, Cal, she embarks on a mission to reconnect these forgotten creatures with their now-grown human companions. It’s part live-action, part Pixar-esque fever dream, and a total attempt to hijack your tear ducts. THE PROS The voice cast is absolutely mental—we’re talking George Clooney, Bradley Cooper, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge lending their pipes to sentient ice cubes and floating bubbles. The reunion of John Krasinski and Steve Carell (who voices the giant purple fluff-ball, Blue) is a sincere win for anyone who spent the last decade re-watching *The Office*. Visually, the movie is a celebratory explosion of creativity, especially during the retirement home sequences beneath Coney Island that look like a kid’s sketchbook came to life. Ryan Reynolds brings his trademark "twinkly" energy but dials back the snark to play a more sincere, nicey version of himself. THE CONS It misses the 8 or 9 mark because it’s a total head-scratcher when it comes to tone; the trailers make it look like a wacky comedy, but the actual movie is a heavy drama about grief and growing up that might leave younger kids a bit "wiggly" and bored.
