⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY The universe is fundamentally broken. Following an apocalyptic event known as "The Quiet Rapture," all stars and habitable planets simply vanished. Humanity is clinging to survival on rusting space stations. Simon, a convict, is offered a grim shot at redemption: pilot a tiny, dilapidated submarine called the "Iron Lung" through an ocean of literal blood on a desolate moon to find answers. It is a claustrophobic, intense one-man show that trades jump scares for a slow-crushing sense of dread as Simon navigates the dark depths in a tin can held together by frayed wires and pure panic.[review] This earns a 7/10 because it successfully translates the suffocating tension of the hit video game to the big screen. Mark Fischbach writes, directs, and stars in his feature debut, proving he knows exactly how to build atmosphere. The film makes the most of its single-location setting, forcing you to experience Simon’s growing madness and the terrifying bumps against the hull right alongside him. It is brilliant at making you fear what you can't see. The buttons, the failing analog tech, and the sparks were all real, adding genuine grit to the tight cinematography.
