Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Director Wes Ball takes the reins for this new chapter, set 300 years after Caesar’s legendary reign. Apes are now the dominant species, living in various clans, while humans have regressed into a feral, silent state. The story follows Noa, a young chimpanzee from the Eagle Clan, whose life is upended when a tyrannical leader named Proximus Caesar raids his village. Proximus is obsessed with reclaiming human technology locked in a massive "vault" and has twisted Caesar’s original teachings to justify his rule. Noa must team up with a wise orangutan and a mysterious, intelligent human girl to rescue his people and decide what kind of future he wants for his kind. THE PROS This earns its 8/10 because the visual effects are a total winner—the CGI reaches *Avatar: The Way of Water* levels of detail, making the apes feel high-quality and honest in every scene. The world-building is legendary; seeing how nature has reclaimed cities over centuries provides a stunning, high-quality backdrop for the journey. Owen Teague is a total win as Noa, giving a sincere performance that makes you root for him even without the shadow of the previous trilogy's leads. Kevin Durand as Proximus is absolute quality—he’s a charismatic, terrifying villain who commands the screen whenever he shouts "What a wonderful day!" It hits the 8/10 mark because it successfully kicks off a new era with a story that feels honest to the franchise’s roots while introducing a younger, high-quality spirit. THE CONS It misses the "Epic Status" 9 or 10 because the first act is a bit of a slow-roller, taking quite a while to get the momentum going.
