⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY On a lush Hawaiian island, a lonely young girl named Lilo (Maia Kealoha) adopts what she thinks is a peculiar-looking dog, unaware that "Stitch" is actually the galaxy's most wanted genetic experiment. While Lilo’s older sister, Nani, struggles to keep their fractured family together under the watchful eye of social worker Mrs. Kekoa, Stitch is busy dodging alien bounty hunters and wreaking havoc. It’s a grounded, live-action reimagining of the Disney classic that explores grief, sisterhood, and the true meaning of ohana, all while a blue chaos-engine learns that he wasn't made to destroy, but to belong. THE PROS This is easily one of Disney’s best live-action efforts. It hits an 8 because it keeps the gritty, emotional core of the original—Nani and Lilo’s struggle feels honest and pained, especially with the added depth given to Nani’s character. Sydney Elizebeth Agudong is a win as the overworked older sister, and newcomer Maia Kealoha is a sincere delight as Lilo. The CGI for Stitch manages to bridge the gap between "alien monster" and "cute pet" without falling into the uncanny valley. It’s an epic, sun-drenched adventure that sticks to the heart of the story while modernizing the stakes, making the threat of the family being separated feel more real than ever. THE CONS It stays at an 8 because some of the alien designs, particularly Jumba and Pleakley in their "human" disguises, can look a bit jarring in a live-action setting. It misses a higher mark because the third act makes some bold changes—shifting the villain dynamic and removing Captain Gantu—which might be a "head scratcher" for purists who loved the scale of the original finale. The pacing also sags slightly in the middle when the focus shifts heavily toward the sci-fi elements, occasionally losing the intimate, grounded vibe that makes the Hawaii scenes so special. THE VERDICT 8/10. An honest, beautiful, and surprisingly gritty remake that honors its roots. It’s a fair shout for fans of all ages and a rare example of a live-action Disney film that actually adds meaningful layers to the story. THE VIBE Like a warm breeze and a cold shaved ice. It smells of saltwater, tropical flowers, and the metallic tang of a crashed spaceship.
