    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 ​ THE SUMMARY ​In a meta-stroke of casting, Keanu Reeves stars as Reef Hawk, a saintly Hollywood icon who has spent years hiding a messy heroin addiction. His carefully curated life is threatened when he’s blackmailed by an anonymous source holding a video of him in a "compromising situation." On the advice of his garish, high-stress crisis lawyer, Ira (Jonah Hill), Reef goes on a "forgiveness tour," tracking down every person he’s ever wronged to sniff out the extortionist. It’s a dark comedy satire that tries to peel back the curtain on Hollywood’s "cancel culture" and the desperate machinery used to keep stars on their pedestals. ​ THE PROS ​Keanu Reeves is a "Guaranteed Banger" when it comes to being likeable, and he leans into the meta-commentary with a performance that feels surprisingly vulnerable. The cast is absolutely stacked; seeing Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer as his high school besties adds a layer of nostalgia, and David Spade pops up for some much-needed levity. The real "Masterpiece" here, though, is a supporting turn by Martin Scorsese, whose acting is so effortless and confident it nearly steals the whole movie. When the film stops trying to be "funny" and focuses on the quiet, moving scenes of Reef making amends, it actually finds a unique, soulful vibe that works. ​ THE CONS ​It is a "Tonal Nightmare." Jonah Hill (who also directed) plays his lawyer character like a coked-out cartoon, which constantly clashes with the somber, introspective journey Keanu is on. It’s a 5/10 because the cinematography—shot by the guy who did Enter the Void—is so aggressively oversaturated and "trippy" that it actually makes the comedy feel buried under a fever dream. At just under 80 minutes, it’s "The Garbage" in terms of pacing; it feels rushed and unfinished, ending on a flat note that prioritizes "personal growth" over a satisfying narrative payoff. It misses the 9/10 mark by a mile because it’s too cynical to be a dramedy and too maudlin to be a proper satire. ​ THE VERDICT ​A 5/10. It’s "The Business" if you want to see Keanu Reeves play a darker version of his own public persona, but it’s a "head-scratcher" for everyone else. It won’t be the "Outcome" anyone was really hoping for, but it’s a fascinating, weird addition to the 2026 Apple TV lineup. ​ INSOMNIAC TRIVIA ​ The film marks a major comeback for Cameron Diaz, who reportedly came out of her "second retirement" specifically because Jonah Hill sent her the script. Also, the movie’s fictional video that Reef is so afraid of was inspired by real-life Hollywood "fixer" stories from the 1950s. Fun fact: Most of the "industry insider" dialogue was improvised on set, leading to a much longer first cut that had to be trimmed down significantly, which explains why the final runtime is so brisk. ​ THE VIBE ​ Like a high-end Hollywood party where the music is too loud and everyone is slightly too honest. It’s flashy, uncomfortable, and leaves you with a bit of a headache, but you’ll probably still talk about it the next morning.
