    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 THE SUMMARY Jakub (Adam Sandler) is a lone Czech astronaut six months into a solitary mission to investigate a mysterious, shimmering cloud near Jupiter. While drifting through the silent void, his mental state begins to fracture under the pained weight of isolation and the crumbling of his marriage to Lenka (Carey Mulligan), who has stopped communicating with him from Earth. Out of the shadows of his ship emerges Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano), a giant, ancient, spider-like alien who may or may not be a hallucination. The two strike up a sincere, bizarre friendship as Hanuš acts as an extraterrestrial therapist, helping Jakub navigate his pained memories and visceral regrets. THE PROS Adam Sandler delivers an honest, stripped-back performance that is a fair shout for his most subdued work yet. There’s no shouting or "Sandler-isms" here; just a pained, weary man lost in the stars. Paul Dano’s voice work as Hanuš is a total highlight—he manages to make a giant space spider feel gentle, wise, and oddly soothing. The production design is epic, capturing a retro-futuristic, "lived-in" Soviet-era aesthetic that feels gritty and grounded rather than slick and shiny. It’s a sincere attempt at a psychological sci-fi that prioritizes pained emotional depth over laser blasts, offering some visceral, dreamlike imagery as Jakub nears the Chopra cloud. THE CONS It sits at a 5 because the pacing is a massive head-scratcher. For a movie set in the far reaches of space, it feels incredibly inert and, at times, pained in its slowness. It misses a higher mark because the central metaphor—a giant spider helping a guy with his marriage—can feel a bit thin and repetitive over the 100-minute runtime. While the acting is top-tier, the script leans so heavily into despondent, whispered conversations that it risks becoming a bit of a slog for anyone not in the mood for a "languid burn." It’s an honest effort that ends up feeling more like a pained therapy session than a gripping sci-fi odyssey. THE VERDICT 5/10. A moody, pained, and deeply strange look at loneliness. It’s a fair shout if you want to see Sandler's dramatic range, but as a space thriller, it’s a bit too sleepy to truly take off.
