⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY A stylish crew of animal outlaws—Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula—are the world's most wanted criminals. After a lifetime of legendary heists, they’re finally pinched, but Mr. Wolf strikes a deal: they’ll go "good" to avoid prison. Under the tutelage of a literal saintly guinea pig, Professor Marmalade, the gang tries to trade their life of crime for the life of the law-abiding. But as Mr. Wolf starts to actually enjoy being a "good boy," a new villain emerges, forcing the team to decide if they really want to change their spots—or scales. THE PROS This flick is an absolute win for its visual style; it ditches the standard "plastic" look of modern animation for a celebratory explosion of 2D/3D hybrid art that feels like a living comic book. Sam Rockwell is a total belter as Mr. Wolf, bringing a sincere, Clooney-esque charm that makes him instantly likable. The heist sequences are the business, moving with a slick, high-energy pace that feels like 'Ocean’s Eleven' for the juice-box crowd. It’s a sincere treat to see a family film lean so heavily into "cool" without losing its heart, making it a good movie that adults will enjoy just as much as the kids. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because, while highly recommended, the "twist" villain is a bit of a head-scratcher and fairly predictable for anyone who has seen more than three animated movies. The plot follows a sincere, well-worn path of redemption that doesn't take many massive risks with its narrative structure.
