Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Direct-to-video sequels usually have the shelf life of a bruised banana, but this 2009 third entry actually tries to do something different. Sam Reide (Chris Carmack) uses his time-traveling ability to help the police as a "psychic" consultant, jumping back into an ice-filled bathtub to witness crimes without interfering. But when he breaks his own rules to solve the cold-case murder of his girlfriend, he accidentally unleashes a serial killer known as the "Ponti-Killer." It’s a grisly, low-budget mix of *Quantum Leap* and a slasher flick that keeps you guessing, even if the logic occasionally collapses under its own weight. THE PROS This is a win because it ditches the "melodrama" of the second film and pivots into a proper murder mystery. Chris Carmack is a total belter as the lead; he’s charismatic and carries the emotional weight of a man whose brain is essentially being fried by his own gift. The "ice bath" mechanic is a sincere, tactile way to show the physical toll of time travel, making it feel more like a dangerous ritual than a superpower. It’s a celebratory explosion of creative gore and decent twists that make it feel like a high-end episode of a dark supernatural procedural.
