⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Terry Silver, a pony-tailed billionaire and old war buddy of Kreese, decides to spend his vast fortune on the ultimate "petty" revenge: destroying a teenager and an elderly gardener. After the Cobra Kai dojo is humiliated, Silver hatches a convoluted plan to drive a wedge between Daniel and Mr. Miyagi. He hires "Karate’s Bad Boy" Mike Barnes to terrorize Daniel into defending his title at the All-Valley Tournament. It’s a darker, more psychological entry that sees Daniel succumb to anger and "quicksand" training before realizing that Miyagi’s way is the only way to find balance again. THE PROS Thomas Ian Griffith is an absolute win as Terry Silver; he is a total belter of a villain, chewing the scenery with such unhinged, cackling energy that he becomes the best part of the movie. His "Rule Number One" training sessions are a celebratory explosion of 80s over-the-top menace. It’s a sincere treat to see Daniel actually struggle with his darker impulses, making his eventual reconciliation with Miyagi feel earned. The final tournament fight—while brief—has a sincere intensity thanks to Mike Barnes being a genuinely formidable and cruel opponent who actually looks like he could win. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because the plot is a massive head-scratcher; why a wealthy businessman would dedicate his entire life to bullying a kid over a trophy is a bit of a stretch. Ralph Macchio, while putting in a sincere effort, was clearly getting a bit too old to play a "kid," making some of the bullying scenes feel a tad awkward. It misses the 7/10 mark because the story feels like a sincere retread of the first film’s structure but with much weirder stakes. It’s a bit of a step down in quality, feeling more like a "cartoon" version of the franchise than the grounded drama we started with. THE VERDICT A 6/10. Decent if you’re a fan of the series or want to understand the backstory for 'Cobra Kai' Season 4. It’s a vault essential only for completionists who want to see the original trilogy through to its bizarre end. Go and watch it for Terry Silver’s legendary ponytail and manic laughter—it’s the business for a bit of unintentional 80s comedy.
