    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Directed by Mike Flanagan and adapted from a Stephen King novella, this is a mind-bending drama told in reverse. The story kicks off with the literal end of the world—the internet is down, the stars are going out, and billboards featuring a generic accountant named Chuck Krantz (Tom Hiddleston) keep popping up with the message "39 Great Years! Thanks, Chuck!" As the film moves backward through different acts of Chuck's life, we realize the "universe" ending is actually the internal world of Chuck himself as he passes away. It’s a cosmic celebration of an "ordinary" life, showing how every person contains an entire universe of memories and connections. THE PROS Tom Hiddleston is phenomenal in a role that relies more on his physical presence and expressions than dialogue. His extended street-dancing sequence is a standout moment—it’s pure, unadulterated joy that feels completely sincere. Mike Flanagan proves once again he’s the master of King adaptations, grounding the high-concept "apocalypse" in deeply honest human emotions. It’s an 8/10 because the reverse structure is genuinely gripping; starting at the end and working back to his childhood makes every small moment feel heavy with meaning. Mark Hamill also delivers a heart-wrenching performance as Chuck’s grandfather, providing the emotional anchor for the first part of the story. THE CONS It lands an 8/10 because the middle part can feel a bit sluggish as the movie shifts from the massive cosmic mystery to more standard coming-of-age beats. The heavy use of narration is charming, but at times it feels like it’s telling the audience exactly how to feel rather than letting the scenes breathe. It misses a higher mark because the "secret attic" subplot feels a bit like a standard horror trope that doesn't quite mesh with the soulful tone of the rest of the film.
