⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY When a young boy accidentally triggers a beacon that summons the universe's most lethal hunters back to Earth, a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher are the only ones standing in the way. These Predators have been upgrading themselves with DNA from other species, making them stronger and smarter than ever before. It’s a chaotic race to stop the "Ultimate Predator" from wiping out the team and claim a mysterious cargo that could change the fate of humanity. THE PROS The film is a win when it comes to the banter between the "loonies"—the group of misfit soldiers have a genuine chemistry that leads to some funny moments. Sterling K. Brown is a total belter as the government suit; he clearly understands the assignment and hamms it up perfectly. There are a few creative kills that provide a punchy bit of R-rated fun, and the fast-paced direction keeps things moving quickly enough that you aren't bored. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because the plot is a bit of a head-scratcher and frequently trips over its own feet. The "hybrid" Predator logic can feel sluggish and complicates a simple franchise that didn't need a convoluted backstory. The CGI in the final act is a bit hit or miss, often looking messy during the bigger action sequences. It misses the 7/10 mark because it feels more like a generic action flick than a proper Predator hunt, losing that sense of dread and atmosphere that made the original a masterpiece. THE VERDICT A 6/10. Decent if you just want some mindless action and a few laughs, but it’s far from a vault essential. It’s a sincere disappointment for those wanting a gritty survival story. Go and watch it for the banter and Sterling K. Brown’s performance, but don't expect it to live up to the legacy of the 1987 classic. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Major Reshoots: The entire third act was famously reshot. Originally, the finale took place during the day and featured friendly Predators helping the humans, but test audiences hated it, so it was swapped for the night-time forest hunt we got.• Missing Link: Edward James Olmos filmed a whole subplot as a high-ranking military general, but his entire character was cut from the final film to trim the runtime and keep the focus on the main squad.• Callback: The character of Casey Bracket (Olivia Munn) mentions that the Predator has been here before in 1987 and 1997, acknowledging the events of the first two films while completely ignoring the 'Alien vs. Predator' spin-offs. THE VIBE Like a loud, messy house party that’s slightly out of control. It smells like gunpowder, cheap cigars, and burnt electronics. It makes you want to hang out with the lads, ignore the plot holes, and wonder why the aliens are suddenly so obsessed with human DNA.
