Overview

Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 THE SUMMARY Seattle is being plagued by a string of mysterious killings, which the Cullens quickly realize is the work of a "newborn" vampire army. At the center of it is Victoria, still fuming over James’s death and seeking ultimate revenge on Bella. To stand a chance against a pack of super-strong, thirsty vamps, the Cullens have to do the unthinkable: form an uneasy alliance with Jacob and his werewolf pack. Meanwhile, Bella is stuck in the world’s most awkward tent, forced to choose between her cold vampire fiancé and her shirtless werewolf best mate while a literal war brews on the horizon. THE PROS David Slade (who did '30 Days of Night') brings a much-needed punchy energy to the action. The training sequences and the final mountain battle are a winner, finally giving the wolves and vamps something to do other than stare intensely at each other. Bryce Dallas Howard is quality as the new Victoria, bringing a more calculated menace to the role. It’s a 5/10 because the backstory flashbacks for Rosalie and Jasper are epic status—they’re easily the most interesting parts of the movie and feel sincere in their grit. The "tent scene" is also a comedy goldmine for the wrong reasons, featuring some quality banter between Edward and Jacob that actually acknowledges how ridiculous their rivalry is. THE CONS It earns a 5/10 because the central love triangle is starting to feel a bit quality-deficient and repetitive; Bella’s indecision is a damp squib that drags out the runtime. The pacing can feel slightly sluggish during the endless scenes of people standing in the woods explaining the "rules" of vampire warfare. It misses a 6/10 mark because some of the CGI wolves still look a bit "early 2000s" and the wigs—especially Taylor Lautner’s early-movie mane—are a total crime against cinema. At over two hours, it’s a long road to get to a battle that is over relatively quickly. THE VERDICT A 5/10. Average and recommended if you want to see the series actually move at a decent clip for once. It’s a winner for the fight choreography and the backstory segments. Go and watch it for the "I’m hotter than you" line—it’s quality cringe that belongs in a museum. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Fight Club: The actors playing the "newborn" vampires had to go through a rigorous "vampire boot camp" to learn how to move with a predatory, animalistic style. They were told to imagine they were "sharks on land," which is why their running looks so punchy and aggressive. • Wigging Out: The production had a notorious struggle with hair. Kristen Stewart had to wear a wig because she had cut her hair short for 'The Runaways', and fans famously complained it looked quality-deficient. Taylor Lautner also celebrated the day he finally got to ditch the "long hair" wig for his shorter, wolf-ready look. • Cold Sets: To keep the "vampire skin" looking sincere and pale, the cast often had to film in freezing conditions in Vancouver. The irony wasn't lost on the crew that the "cold ones" were actually shivering between takes while the "warm" werewolves were walking around shirtless in 5°C weather. THE VIBE Like a cold mountain breeze hitting a warm fur coat. It smells like wet pine, graduation caps, and teenage angst.

THE SUMMARY
