⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY A massive, sweeping historical epic told entirely from an indigenous perspective. Set at the tail end of the 18th century, the series plunges into a brutal, multi-sided civil war across the Hawaiian Islands, where four distinct kingdoms are locked in a vicious struggle for dominant power. The story follows Kaʻiana, a legendary Maui war chief who returns from a period of exile and finds himself dragged into a bloody, high-stakes military campaign to unite the fragmented islands under the rule of Kamehameha I, all while the ominous threat of Western colonization looms heavily on the horizon. THE PROS Jason Momoa delivers a fierce, deeply passionate powerhouse performance as Kaʻiana, channeling massive physical presence alongside a genuine emotional gravity that anchors the entire series. The show looks absolutely breathtaking, utilizing sweeping cinematography of the raw Hawaiian landscape, meticulous costume designs, and incredibly visceral hand-to-hand combat sequences that feel incredibly grounded and real.
