⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Emily Cooper is a Chicago marketing whiz who lands her dream job in Paris after her company acquires a French luxury marketing firm. Armed with a "can-do" American attitude and a collection of berets, she sets out to conquer the City of Light—only to find that the locals aren't exactly rolling out the red carpet. Between clashing with her ice-queen boss Sylvie, navigating a messy love triangle with her hot chef neighbor Gabriel, and becoming an accidental influencer, Emily’s life is a whirlwind of croissants, high fashion, and social media hashtags. THE PROS This is a 6/10 because it is the ultimate "brain-off" escapism. The show is basically a travel brochure for Paris, featuring stunning cinematography that makes every street corner look like a movie set. Lily Collins is undeniably charming as Emily, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu steals every scene as the effortlessly chic, perpetually unimpressed Sylvie. It hits the mark as a "guilty pleasure" because it’s bright, colorful, and completely unchallenging. By 2026, the show has successfully expanded its horizons, with Season 5 (released in late 2025) taking Emily to Rome for a new romance and even fresher scenery. It’s a winner for anyone who just wants to look at beautiful people in expensive clothes without having to worry about things like "logic" or "realistic work-life balance." THE CONS It misses a higher rating because the plot is thinner than a crepe. Emily’s "marketing genius" usually involves her blurting out a basic idea that everyone treats like a revolutionary breakthrough, which can be a bit of a stretch. It settles at a 6 because the characters can be incredibly frustrating; Emily’s "ugly American" habits and her constant interference in her friends' lives make her a hard protagonist to truly root for at times. The series often relies on tired stereotypes about both Americans and the French, and after five seasons, the "will-they-won't-they" drama between her and Gabriel has started to feel like a revolving door that’s stuck in the mud. THE VERDICT A solid 6/10. It is a frothy, fashionable, and fundamentally silly show that knows exactly what it is. It isn't an 8 or 9 because it lacks any real depth or stakes, but for pure visual candy, it’s a total winner. If you’re looking for high-brow drama, keep walking, but if you want to spend thirty minutes pretending you’re drinking a spritz in the Marais, it hits the spot. Anticipated: With Season 5 having recently wrapped up with Emily choosing Rome over Paris, fans are already looking toward Season 6, which is rumored to be heading to Greece in late 2026 or early 2027. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Real Chef: Lucas Bravo, who plays Gabriel, didn't have to fake his skills in the kitchen. Before he was an actor, he worked as a professional sous-chef in a real restaurant, which made his scenes at "L'Esprit de Gigi" much easier to film.• Family Ties: Lily Collins has a very famous father—British music legend Phil Collins. He even wrote one of his most famous songs, "You'll Be In My Heart," as a lullaby for her when she was a baby.• High Fashion Homage: Many of Emily’s outfits are subtle nods to Audrey Hepburn or *Sex and the City*. For example, the tulle skirt she wears in Season 1 was a direct tribute to the iconic tutu Carrie Bradshaw wore in the opening credits of her show. THE VIBE Like a macaron that’s mostly sugar and air. It smells like expensive perfume, fresh croissants, and diesel fumes from a Vespa. It’s bright, bubbly, and very shallow. It makes you want to buy a designer bag, post a selfie, and realize that life is easier when you don't speak the language.
