⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Bode Donovan is a young convict looking for a literal get-out-of-jail-free card. To shave time off his sentence, he joins a specialized firefighting program that pairs inmates with elite crews to tackle the massive wildfires tearing through Northern California. The catch? He’s assigned to his hometown of Edgewater—the very place he fled after a family tragedy turned him into a local pariah. Now, he’s fighting literal fires while trying to extinguish the bridges he burned years ago with his estranged parents and former friends. THE PROS This is a 7/10 because it takes a unique premise—the real-world California inmate firefighter program—and turns it into a high-stakes family saga. Max Thieriot is great as Bode; he brings a rugged, tortured energy that makes you root for his redemption even when he’s being his own worst enemy. The show shines during the action sequences; the wildfires feel like a genuine, terrifying monster, and the technical side of how these crews "cut line" to stop the blaze is fascinating. It’s a winner for fans of first-responder dramas who want something with a bit more grit and a "soapier" back-story than your standard procedural. THE CONS It misses an 8 because it often prioritizes melodrama over logic. Some of the coincidences—like Bode ending up exactly where his family lives—are a bit too "TV convenient," and the romantic subplots can occasionally feel like they belong in a different show. They wanted to make sure the way they held the chainsaws and handled the hoses looked second-nature on camera.• Family Ties: Billy Burke and Diane Farr, who play Bode’s parents, were cast because of their seasoned chemistry. Burke, who many know from the *Twilight* films, intentionally brought a "Miyagi-style" sternness to his role to contrast with Bode’s impulsive nature. THE VIBE Like the smell of pine needles and smoke on a hot summer evening. It’s rugged, emotional, and very loud.
