Invasion (2005) is a smart, atmospheric sci-fi thriller set in the aftermath of a devastating storm in Homestead, Florida. While the town is digging out of the debris, US Park Ranger Russell Varon (Eddie Cibrian) starts noticing that the people who survived—including his ex-wife Mariel—aren't acting like themselves anymore. It’s essentially *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* meets a family soap opera, overseen by the enigmatic and intensely creepy Sheriff Tom Underlay (the legendary William Fichtner). By April 2026, it remains one of the ultimate "one-season wonders" that was taken from us far too soon. THE PROSThe performance of William Fichtner is a "Guaranteed Banger." He plays the Sheriff with such a cold, calculating stillness that you’re never 100% sure if he’s the hero or the ultimate villain. The show’s writing is a Masterpiece of subtext, using the "body snatcher" paranoia as a brilliant metaphor for the awkwardness of a family divorce—half the tension comes from the aliens, and the other half comes from the petty jealousies of the ex-spouses. It’s also a total treat for trivia buffs to see a young Evan Peters (long before his *American Horror Story* days) as the teenage son caught in the middle.
