    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY If the 90s belonged to individual heroes, the early 2000s were all about the ultimate power-lunch. Justice League (2001–2004) brought together the "Big Seven"—Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl—to do what they do best: save the planet from alien invasions and time-traveling despots. Following the massive success of the Batman and Superman solo series, this was the moment DC decided to throw everyone into a blender. What resulted was a cinematic, letterboxed show that treated superhero teams with more maturity than almost any live-action attempt to date. THE PROS The voice acting is the absolute business—Kevin Conroy’s Batman is the authentic voice of the character for a reason. The show is a genuine belter for its format; almost every story is a two- or three-part mini-movie, allowing the plots to breathe and the stakes to feel real. It’s a total win for character dynamics, especially the friction between the optimistic Superman and the cynical Batman. It also gets points for making Green Lantern (John Stewart) and Hawkgirl complex, gritty characters rather than just background fillers. THE CONS It misses the 9/10 "Epic" mark because the first season is a bit of a head-scratcher when it comes to Superman. He spends a lot of time being a professional punching bag just to show how tough the villain of the week is, which feels a bit wet. The animation in those early episodes can also be a tad stiff compared to the high-octane fluidity we saw in later seasons. It’s an 8/10 because while it's a vault essential for fans, it hasn't aged perfectly in every department, and some of the dialogue feels a bit "Saturday morning" by 2026 standards. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It’s a sincere, high-quality staple of the genre that every fan needs in their vault. It isn't a 9/10 because it takes a while to find its footing and doesn't quite reach the "flawless" tier of storytelling found in the very best dramas. It is total garbage that we don't get 52-episode runs like this anymore, but it remains a genuine masterclass in how to handle an ensemble cast without losing the plot. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • The "Z-Word" Marvel Nod: The producers were secret Marvel fans. In one arc, they witty-ly created a team that was a direct parody of Marvel’s Defenders (Doctor Strange, Hulk, Namor, and Silver Surfer), giving us a sincere crossover vibe without the lawyers getting involved.• Scheduling Snafu: Tim Daly couldn't return as Superman because he was filming a show called The Fugitive. George Newbern stepped in and became so authentic that many fans now struggle to pick between them.• Bat-Wallet: Bruce Wayne is the one who actually paid for the Watchtower orbiting the Earth. Fans witty-ly noted that Batman’s real superpower in this show is just being ridiculously rich and having a very high credit limit. THE VIBE Like a cinematic score swelling, the hum of a teleporter, and the feeling that no matter how big the threat is, someone is coming to save you. It’s heroic, grand, and nostalgic. It makes you want to buy a cape, look at the stars, and realize that even gods need a bit of backup sometimes.
