    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Xavier Collins is a Secret Service agent whose job is to protect the President of the United States. It sounds straightforward, except "The President" is Cal Bradford, and the United States has been reduced to a city-sized underground bunker in Colorado following a world-ending event. When Xavier finds the President dead, he becomes the prime suspect in a murder mystery that threatens to tear the bunker's fragile society apart. This isn't just a political thriller; it’s a high-concept sci-fi riddle where the "Paradise" they live in is built on a foundation of massive, world-shattering lies. THE PROS This is an 8/10 because Sterling K. Brown and Dan Fogelman have captured lightning in a bottle again. Brown is sensational as Xavier, bringing a grounded, soulful intensity to a man who is grieving his wife while trying to save what’s left of humanity. The "bunker" setting is brilliantly realized—it feels lived-in, claustrophobic, and genuinely eerie. It hits the mark because it pulls a "genre-flip" that’ll have you picking your jaw up off the floor; it starts as a standard *24*-style thriller and slowly morphs into something far more ambitious, reminiscent of *Lost* or *The Truman Show*. Season 2, which landed in early 2026, doubled down on the twists by finally taking us outside the bunker to see what’s actually left of the world. THE CONS It misses a 9/10 because it occasionally "over-explains" itself. The show sometimes treats the audience like they aren't paying attention, using montages or heavy dialogue to repeat clues we’ve already spotted. It settles at an 8 because, while the sci-fi pivot is great, the political subplots involving the various bunker factions can occasionally feel a bit dry and slow compared to the central mystery of the President's murder. Some of the needle-drops at the end of episodes also feel a bit "video game trailer" and can pull you out of the prestige atmosphere. THE VERDICT A solid 8/10. It’s an addictive, twisty, and expertly acted thriller that proves Dan Fogelman can do a lot more than just make you cry over family dramas. It isn't a 9 because of the slightly clunky pacing in the middle of Season 1, but for pure "what happens next?" energy, it’s a total winner. Anticipated: With Season 2 having just wrapped up with a massive cliffhanger, Season 3 is already in production for a 2027 release, and Julianna Margulies has just joined the cast. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Sci-Fi Secrets: The show was marketed almost entirely as a political thriller. The "post-apocalyptic bunker" twist was kept so secret during production that the cast had to sign non-disclosure agreements specifically about the setting of the show to avoid spoilers leaking before the premiere.• Practical Concrete: To make the bunker feel real, the production built massive, brutalist sets in a warehouse in Atlanta. The central "command hub" was a functional three-story structure designed to make the actors feel the literal weight of living underground for years.• This Is Us Reunion: Sterling K. Brown isn't the only familiar face. Krys Marshall, who plays Agent Robinson, also appeared in *This Is Us*, and the score is composed by Siddhartha Khosla, who provided the iconic emotional soundtrack for Fogelman’s previous hit. THE VIBE Like a luxury hotel built inside a fallout shelter. It smells like recycled air, expensive scotch, and damp concrete. It’s slick, paranoid, and very tense. It makes you want to stock up on canned goods, question your neighbors, and realize that some doors are locked for a very good reason.
