Overview

    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY If you thought James Gunn was done making us love absolute idiots after Guardians of the Galaxy, Peacemaker (2022) is here to prove you wrong. Following the events of The Suicide Squad, Christopher Smith—a man who loves peace so much he’s willing to kill every man, woman, and child to get it—is out of the hospital and forced into a black-ops mission called Project Butterfly. Accompanied by a team of misfits and a literal bald eagle named Eagly, he has to save the world from an alien invasion while dealing with a father who is basically the final boss of toxic masculinity. THE PROS This is a 9/10 because it is the definition of an epic series. John Cena is a total win; he has the comedic timing of a god and the dramatic range to make you sincerely weep for a guy wearing a chrome toilet seat on his head. The opening credits dance sequence is the business—it's the only intro in history that is 100% unskippable. The show is a genuine belter because it balances crude, witty humor with a sincere heart, turning a secondary villain into a character you’d actually take a bullet for. It’s authentic, loud, and brilliantly unhinged. THE CONS It misses the 10/10 mark only because the middle episodes occasionally lean into a Languid Burn where the banter goes on a bit too long, slowing down the high-octane momentum of the main Butterfly plot. A few of the side characters’ subplots feel a bit wet and unnecessary compared to the gold we get with Peacemaker and Vigilante. If you’re a total prude who hates foul language and creative gore, this show will be a total buzzkill for you, but for the rest of us, it’s a vault essential. THE VERDICT A 9/10. Insomniacs User: Go and watch this series because we’re telling you it’s epic! It’s the perfect blend of superhero satire and genuine character growth. It is total garbage that we had to wait so long for the second season to drop in 2026, but the quality has stayed top-tier. It proves that you can be a total douchebag and still have a soul. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out on the best thing DC has ever put on a screen. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • The Eagly Secret: Eagly isn't just a CGI masterpiece; his voice and movements were based on a real rescued eagle. James Gunn insisted on making their bond feel 100% authentic, which is why every hug between Cena and the bird feels like a sincere win for animal lovers. • Improv King: Freddie Stroma, who plays Vigilante, improvised almost all of his most bizarre lines. The "pinky toe" conversation was a total head-scratcher for the crew at first, but it ended up being so witty-ly dark they had to keep it in the final cut. • The Intro Stoicism: During the iconic opening dance, the actors were strictly forbidden from smiling or showing any emotion. It took them hundreds of takes because John Cena kept making the cast crack up with his "serious" face, which is a sincere testament to how much fun they had on set. THE VIBE Like 80s hair metal, the smell of gunpowder and cheap beer, and the surprisingly warm feeling of a hug from a bird of prey. It’s patriotic, ridiculous, and deeply human. It makes you want to buy a tight red suit, rock out to Wig Wam, and realize that even the biggest idiots can change.
