⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) has an extraordinary gift: she can tell when anyone is lying. After a tragedy at the casino where she worked, she hits the road in her beat-up Plymouth Barracuda, crossing paths with a new cast of characters and a fresh murder mystery in every town. The second season, which dropped in late 2025, sees Charlie still on the run from a vengeful crime boss while stumbling into bizarre homicides at everything from a high-stakes dog show to a remote weather station. It’s a smart, modern take on the "howcatchem" mystery format, where the focus isn't on *who* did it, but how Charlie is going to prove it. THE PROS This is an amazing series because Natasha Lyonne is a total highlight; she brings a sincere, raspy, and effortless cool to Charlie that makes her an instant icon. It hits an 8 because Rian Johnson’s direction gives the show a cinematic, 70s-style grit that feels entirely honest to the classic mystery shows it’s honoring. The guest stars are a fair shout for the best on TV—seeing legends like Giancarlo Esposito and Katie Holmes pop up as villains or victims in the 2025 episodes was amazing. It’s a smart series that rewards you for paying attention to the tiny details, and Charlie’s "bullshit" detector is a great hook that never gets old.
