    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY A dark, brooding psychological thriller set in a quiet, sun-drenched suburban town in Northern California. When a local teenager is brutally murdered, the community is thrown into total panic as people suspect the infamous "RR Killer"—a serial murderer who has been completely dormant for five years—has returned. The investigation places a local homicide detective, Mike Serrato, on a chaotic collision course with Leo Doyle, a well-liked high school guidance counselor. Both men are deeply troubled fathers trying to protect their families while hiding explosive, volatile inner demons that threaten to tear their quiet suburban lives apart. THE PROS Aden Young is fantastic as the intensely tightly wound, unhinged detective who is slowly losing his grip on reality as the obsession takes over. Sam Trammell matches him brilliantly, playing the mild-mannered counselor with a creepy, understated coldness that keeps you constantly guessing what he's capable of. The series does a grand job of building a deeply unsettling, heavy atmosphere, exploring how paranoia can spread through a wealthy, tight-knit community like wildfire until everyone is looking at their neighbors with total suspicion. THE CONS The pacing stretches thin over its ten-episode run, with the plot frequently hitting a standstill to focus on messy, repetitive family arguments that feel like standard soap opera drama. The central mystery depends on a few incredibly contrived coincidences, and if you’ve watched major serial killer shows like Dexter or True Detective, a lot of the dark twists will feel highly familiar and predictable. THE VERDICT A solid 6/10. It is a decent, atmospheric thriller that serves up enough tension to satisfy die-hard true crime and mystery enthusiasts. It lands a 6 because the two lead performances are incredibly strong and it nails that bleak, paranoid suburban mood perfectly. It misses a higher mark because it takes a bit too long to get to the point and borrows heavily from far superior crime shows, but it is still a completely watchable binge if you want a dark mystery. THE VIBE Like taking a midday walk through a pristine, quiet suburban neighborhood where the lawns are perfectly mowed but you can't shake the freezing feeling that someone is watching you from a darkened window. It smells like fresh sprinkler water, hot concrete, stale coffee, and nervous sweat. Tense, gloomy, and deeply paranoid.
