    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 3/10 THE SUMMARY Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) returns to Earth after years in space to confront a pained and clandestine threat: a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls led by the ruthless Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir). Having grown tired of waiting for the home Fury promised them decades ago, the Skrulls have infiltrated the highest levels of global government to take Earth for themselves. Alongside Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and the professionally sociopathic MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Colman), Fury must fight a lonely pained war where anyone—including his closest allies—could be the enemy. It’s a gritty espionage thriller that attempts to strip back the "super" to focus on the man behind the eyepatch. THE PROS This series hits a 3 primarily because of the heavy-hitting acting from the veteran leads. Olivia Colman is a total highlight; her portrayal of Sonya is amazing and brings a sincere, sinister joy to every scene she’s in. Samuel L. Jackson is always an amazing result for the site, and his pained, quieter moments with Ben Mendelsohn provide a fair shout of the "Winter Soldier" grit we were all hoping for. It’s a smart move to explore Fury’s pained and personal life, and the early chemistry between him and Talos is honest and engaging. For the die-hard fans, seeing the pained fallout of the "Blip" on Fury’s psyche was a sincere attempt at character depth that the MCU often overlooks. THE CONS It stays at a 3 because the execution is a massive slog that fails to live up to its "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" potential. It misses a higher mark because the "Secret" part of the invasion is an honest head-scratcher; for a show about shapeshifters, there are pained and few surprises, and the lines of trust are drawn far too early. The pacing is a fair shout for a slow crawl, with the middle episodes feeling like a bit of a slog through generic spy tropes. Most frustratingly, the finale features a pained and CGI-heavy "Super Skrull" brawl that felt an honest head-scratcher and completely betrayed the grounded, smart tone the show spent five weeks building. The pained and abrupt deaths of major legacy characters felt like a bit of a slog for shock value rather than sincere storytelling. THE VERDICT 3/10. A painful and underwhelming addition to the MCU. It’s an amazing waste of a stellar cast that ends up feeling like a fair shout for the most disappointing listing on the site. (Yeah, it's that bad!) INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • To keep the "spy" vibe honest, the show’s opening sequence was famously created using AI—a pained and controversial choice that director Ali Selim felt matched the "uncanny" and deceptive nature of the Skrulls.• Olivia Colman reportedly joined the show because she was a pained and sincere fan of the MCU and had been asking her agent to get her a "Marvel job" for years, even if it meant playing a pained villain.• In a pained and confusing bit of lore, the finale reveals that a major Avenger was a Skrull for a significant amount of time, a move that became an honest head-scratcher for fans trying to reconcile it with the pained emotional beats of *Endgame*. THE VIBE Like a cold cup of coffee in a rainy safehouse. It smells of damp wool, old gunpowder, and the metallic tang of a cold, high-tech needle.
