    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Peter Parker (Christopher Daniel Barnes) is a college student at Empire State University, trying to balance his studies and his love life with the heavy responsibility of being Spider-Man. After being bitten by a radioactive spider, he uses his powers to protect New York City from a huge lineup of iconic villains, including the Kingpin, Green Goblin, and Venom. This series is famous for its long, connected storylines—like the "Neogenic Nightmare"—and for featuring appearances from other big Marvel heroes like the X-Men, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four. It’s a classic 90s superhero show that stays very true to the heart of the comics. THE PROS This show is a massive highlight for the character because it treats Peter Parker as an adult, dealing with real-world problems like paying the bills and keeping a job at the Daily Bugle. It hits a 9 because the voice acting is top-tier; Christopher Daniel Barnes is an honest favorite for many as the voice of Spidey, bringing both the jokes and the emotional weight when things go wrong. The storytelling is a fair shout for some of the best in the genre, using serialized arcs that make the world feel lived-in and consequences feel real. The inclusion of the "Spider-Verse" in the finale was an epic moment that happened way before it was popular in the movies, showing just how ahead of its time this series was. THE CONS It stays at a 9 because the 90s animation, while good for its time, can look a bit stiff today, especially the early use of 3D backgrounds which can be a head-scratcher. It misses a higher mark because of the heavy censorship of the era—you’ll notice Spider-Man never actually punches anyone, and the police use "laser" rifles instead of real guns to keep things kid-friendly. This can make some of the action feel a bit less gritty than the more modern shows. A few of the plot points, like the whole "clone saga" near the end, can become a bit of a slog and might feel a little too complicated if you just want a simple superhero story. THE VERDICT 9/10. An honest masterpiece of 90s animation. It’s an epic journey for any Spidey fan and a fair shout for the best version of the character ever put on TV. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • To keep the show's action feeling fast-paced, the creators reused a lot of animation loops, but they made up for it by having one of the largest voice casts in TV history, featuring stars like Mark Hamill and Ed Asner.• Stan Lee was heavily involved in the production and even hand-picked the lead writer, John Semper, to make sure the show stayed honest to the "soul" of the original comics he co-created.• Because of strict rules against violence on Saturday morning cartoons, the show was famously forbidden from using words like "kill" or "die," so characters were often sent to "other dimensions" or were "destroyed" instead. THE VIBE Like a Saturday morning with a bowl of cereal. It smells of old comic book paper, city smog, and the metallic tang of a web-shooter.
