⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Executive producer Steven Spielberg and the team behind *Our Planet* have reunited for this groundbreaking four-part Netflix docuseries. Narrated by the legendary Morgan Freeman, *The Dinosaurs* trades the "monsters" of Hollywood for a pained and beautiful look at the actual creatures that ruled the Earth for 165 million years. Using the latest fossil research and mind-blowing CGI from Industrial Light & Magic, the series tracks their journey from humble Triassic beginnings to their spectacular, tragic end in the Cretaceous. It’s a smart, visceral, and epic tribute to the kings of the Mesozoic. THE PROS This is an amazing series because it feels like a nature documentary filmed sixty-six million years ago. It hits a 9 because the CGI is a total highlight; the detail on the feathers and the weight of the movements make these animals feel entirely honest and alive. Morgan Freeman’s narration brings a sincere, weary authority to the story, making the "Rise" and "Fall" of these species feel like an epic Shakespearean tragedy. The show is great at highlighting lesser-known species alongside icons like the T-Rex, and the "Ankylosaurus kill" sequence is a fair shout for the most realistic and pained depiction of prehistoric life ever put to screen. It’s a smart, high-budget masterpiece that treats dinosaurs as animals, not just movie villains.
