    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10​ THE SUMMARY ​Forget the "royal fairytale"—this is a royal nightmare. This four-part ITVX drama (released February 2026) retells the chilling true story of Jane Andrews (Mia McKenna-Bruce), a working-class girl from Grimsby who became the personal dresser and confidante to Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York (Natalie Dormer). For nine years, Jane lived a life of champagne and palaces, but the fall was harder than the rise. The series tracks her descent from the inner royal circle to a 2001 murder conviction after she killed her boyfriend, Thomas Cressman, with a cricket bat and a knife in a fit of rage.​ THE PROS ​Mia McKenna-Bruce is a "Guaranteed Banger" here. Fresh off her BAFTA win, she plays Jane with a fragile, wide-eyed intensity that makes her eventual snap feel both tragic and terrifying. Natalie Dormer is equally magnetic as "Fergie," capturing the Duchess’s boisterous energy without turning her into a caricature. The show looks expensive; it’s basically The Crown if it were "spiked with Fatal Attraction." The first two episodes are a masterclass in building social anxiety, showing just how out of place Jane felt in a world of inherited wealth and "proper" vowels.​ THE CONS ​The tone is a bit of a "pantomime horse." It struggles to decide if it’s a glossy royal soap opera, a gritty police procedural, or a psychological horror. The Guardian slammed it for being a "gaudy mess," and they have a point—the scenes of Fergie shouting "Olé!" while trying on hats feel like they belong in a different show than the grim courtroom drama of the finale. It also glosses over the more complex parts of the real-life relationship between Jane and her victim, making the motive feel a bit one-dimensional in the home stretch.​ THE VERDICT ​A solid 7/10. It’s "The Business" for true-crime junkies who love a side of royal scandal. It doesn't quite hit the 8 or 9 mark because it’s a bit too sensationalist for its own good, but it’s undeniably bingeable. It’s the kind of show that makes you realize that being "royal-adjacent" is sometimes more dangerous than being royal yourself.​ INSOMNIAC TRIVIA ​ Natalie Dormer is basically a professional royal at this point, having played Anne Boleyn in The Tudors and Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones. Also, the real Jane Andrews actually escaped from an open prison in 2009—an incident that was so dramatic the producers reportedly considered adding an extra episode just to cover the manhunt. Fun fact: The script is based on the book by royal reporter Lady Colin Campbell, who was actually a close acquaintance of the people involved.​ THE VIBE ​ Like a shattered glass of expensive champagne. It’s sparkly and high-class at first, but by the end, it’s just sharp edges and a mess that’s impossible to clean up.
