Overview

A motor-mouthed outsider with no memory of his past is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY A chaotic, foul-mouthed road trip through a post-apocalyptic America where the biggest problem isn’t the end of the world—it’s the people still left in it. Twisted Metal follows John Doe, a fast-talking milkman with amnesia, tasked with delivering a mysterious package across a wasteland filled with lunatics, killers, and one very unhinged clown. It leans hard into the madness of the games and somehow makes it work. THE PROS Anthony Mackie brings pure charisma—he’s sarcastic, scrappy, and actually makes you care about a guy who spends most of his time trying not to die horribly. Stephanie Beatriz is a standout too, giving Quiet real depth behind the tough exterior. And then there’s Sweet Tooth… absolute chaos. The mix of practical effects, stunt work, and just the right amount of ridiculous humour gives the show a proper identity. THE CONS It doesn’t always balance tone perfectly. One minute it’s emotional, the next it’s full-on carnage with jokes flying everywhere, and the switch can feel a bit jarring. Some of the side characters don’t get enough time to land properly, and a few episodes feel like filler on what’s otherwise a tight premise. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It’s loud, messy, and way more fun than it has any right to be. Not the deepest show in the world, but if you’re in the mood for chaotic action with a bit of heart (and a lot of explosions), it delivers. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA * Game Origins: The series is based on the classic PlayStation game franchise, but instead of focusing on a tournament, it builds a full story around the world and its characters. * Double Trouble: Sweet Tooth is physically played by Samoa Joe, while the voice is provided by Will Arnett—an inspired combo that somehow makes the character even more unhinged. * Mackie’s Take: Anthony Mackie described the show as “a comedy first, action second,” which explains the constant stream of sarcasm even during life-or-death moments. * Real Stunts: A lot of the car action was done practically rather than relying purely on CGI, giving the crashes and chases a much heavier, real feel. * Quiet Evolution: Stephanie Beatriz trained extensively for the role, bringing a grounded, physical presence that balances out the show’s madness. * Surprise Hit: The show performed strongly enough on release to secure a second season, proving there’s still plenty of fuel left in the tank. THE VIBE Like Mad Max crashed into a stand-up comedy gig and then drove off laughing. Loud, violent, and weirdly charming.
