⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Forget everything you think you know about traditional werewolves—there are no silver bullets or mindless killing machines here. Wolfblood is a 2012 CBBC fantasy drama that follows Maddy Smith (Aimee Kelly), a teenage girl living in the quiet town of Stoneybridge, Northumbria. She is a Wolfblood, a human who can transform into a wolf at will but is forced to change during the full moon. Her life gets a lot more complicated when new boy Rhydian Morris (Bobby Lockwood) arrives at school, revealing he is also a Wolfblood but has no idea how to control his powers. Together with their human friends Tom and Shannon, they try to navigate the nightmare of high school while keeping their furry secret safe from the rest of the world. THE PROS The chemistry between Maddy and Rhydian is a Guaranteed Banger. It is a rare teen show that actually handles the "will-they-won't-they" tension with genuine heart and soul. The show does The Business by treating the wolf transformations as a metaphor for the messiness of puberty, making it feel way more grounded and relatable than your average supernatural flick. It is a Masterpiece of atmosphere, using the foggy, rugged Northumbrian countryside to make the town of Stoneybridge feel like a character of its own. The lore is also The Business; calling them "Wolfbloods" instead of werewolves allows the show to create its own rules, focusing on enhanced senses like Eolas (nature-connection) rather than just mindless biting. THE CONS It is an 8/10 because it suffers from a massive "Soft Reboot" problem in the later seasons. Once Maddy and the original Smith family leave after Season 2, the show loses a lot of that initial magic, and by Season 4, it feels like a completely different series. It is a head-scratcher why they decided to move the setting to a city and replace almost the entire cast, which can feel a bit like Garbage for fans who were invested in the original pack. It misses the 9/10 mark because the CGI for the wolves—while decent for a 2012 kids' show—can look a bit "shonky" by 2026 standards, sometimes pulling you out of the moment during the big transformation scenes.
