⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY The Guardians have set up shop on Knowhere, but their peace is shattered when Adam Warlock—a golden super-weapon—blasts in and nearly kills Rocket. To save him, the team has to infiltrate Orgocorp to bypass a "kill-switch" embedded in Rocket’s heart by his creator, the High Evolutionary. As Rocket fights for his life, we see the horrific flashbacks of his origin as "Batch 89" alongside his friends Lylla, Teefs, and Floor. It’s a race against a cosmic eugenicist to save their friend, leading to a massive rescue mission on Counter-Earth and a final stand against a villain who wants to "perfect" the universe by destroying anything he deems flawed. THE PROS This is epic status. James Gunn delivers a sincere, emotional powerhouse that puts the "heart" back in the MCU. Rocket Raccoon is the total win of the movie; seeing his tragic backstory is quality writing that makes him the true protagonist of the trilogy. The High Evolutionary is a winner—Chukwudi Iwuji plays him with a punchy, theatrical rage that makes him one of the most detestable (and therefore best) villains in years. The "hallway fight" sequence is quality, featuring a long-take action scene that is arguably the best-directed scrap in Marvel history. It’s a 9/10 because it gives every character a perfect, earned ending, from Drax’s growth to Nebula’s leadership. THE CONS It misses a 10/10 mark because Adam Warlock feels a bit like a damp squib in the middle act, mostly used as a plot device rather than a fully developed character. The pacing is punchy but can feel slightly sluggish during the heavier, darker animal testing flashbacks—it’s a quality-deficient experience for the faint of heart. It’s a 9/10 because while the humor is quality, some of the jokes feel a bit forced compared to the high emotional stakes of Rocket's life hanging in the balance. THE VERDICT A 9/10. Epic status and highly recommended as the best MCU movie of the 2020s. It’s a winner for Rocket’s arc and the incredible soundtrack. Go and watch it to see how you properly close out a trilogy—it’s pure quality. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Record Breaker: This film broke the world record for the most makeup appliances used in a single production, with over 22,500 prosthetics created for the various alien races. It snatched the title from 2000’s 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'.• F-Bomb First: This movie features the first-ever uncensored "F-bomb" in the history of the MCU. It wasn't in the original script; Chris Pratt ad-libbed it while trying to get Nebula to open a car door, and James Gunn liked the quality of the take so much he kept it in.• Digital Dining: In the scenes featuring the high-tech holographic displays at Orgocorp and on the monitors inside the Bowie, the scrolling "encryption" data once again contains a hidden sushi recipe—the favorite recurring easter egg that has survived every 'Guardians' movie and has officially made it to the end of the trilogy. THE VIBE Like a long goodbye at a space-port. It smells like old leather, animal fur, and a 1970s mixtape.
