⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Three years after the Jurassic World theme park went up in smoke, a massive volcano on Isla Nublar is about to finish off the remaining dinos. Claire and Owen are lured back by a shadowy estate to "rescue" the animals, but it’s all a front. The dinosaurs are actually being shipped to a gothic mansion in Northern California to be auctioned off to the highest-bidding war criminals. Things go from "rescue mission" to "haunted house horror" as a new, genetically modified monster called the Indoraptor gets loose in the hallways. THE PROS This is a win for anyone who likes their dino-action with a side of creepy, gothic atmosphere. Director J.A. Bayona brings a sincere eye for horror; the scene with the Indoraptor’s claw tapping on the floor while a girl hides in bed is epic status. The opening sequence at the park is a celebratory explosion of tension and remains one of the best scenes in the whole trilogy. It’s a decent watch because it tries to do something different by moving the action into a cramped, dark mansion, making the dinosaurs feel scary again rather than just big. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the plot is a bit of a head-scratcher once they leave the island. The villains are about as deep as a puddle, and the idea of selling a raptor as a "super weapon" for a few million quid seems a bit of a low-ball offer in the modern world. The pacing can feel sluggish during the heavy exposition at the Lockwood estate, and the "human clone" twist is a sincere "wait, what?" moment that doesn't quite land. It misses the 8/10 mark because it feels like two completely different movies mashed together—a disaster flick and a slasher movie—and they don't always play nice. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a recommendation if you fancy a Jurassic movie that feels like a Resident Evil game. It’s not exactly a vault essential, but it’s got some punchy scares that make it worth a look. Go and watch it for the volcanic escape and the museum fight—it’s a belter of a visual treat. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Hammond’s Partner: The character of Benjamin Lockwood was retconned into the lore as John Hammond’s former partner. If you look at his cane, it’s a sincere nod to Hammond’s—complete with a mosquito trapped in amber on the handle.• Scarier Dinosaurs: J.A. Bayona wanted the Indoraptor to feel like a "mental patient." It’s designed to look sickly and twitchy, making it feel more like a horror movie slasher than a natural predator.• Sad Brachiosaurus: The dinosaur seen crying on the dock as the volcano erupts is confirmed to be the exact same Brachiosaurus that Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler first saw in the original 1993 film. Absolute tear-jerker, that. THE VIBE Like a thunderstorm hitting a museum of curiosities. It smells like wet rain, old fossils, and expensive cigars. It makes you want to lock your bedroom door, avoid creepy basements, and realize that some "extinct" things really shouldn't be brought home.
