⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Picking up right where the 2025 film left off, 'The Bone Temple' sees young Spike abducted by the "Jimmies"—a terrifying, tracksuit-clad cult led by the charismatic and unhinged Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal. While Spike is forced into their twisted rituals, Dr. Ian Kelson is busy in his mountain laboratory (the "Bone Temple") experimenting on an Alpha Infected named Samson. Kelson suspects the Rage Virus is actually a form of psychosis and attempts a chemical "cure," while Spike’s father, Jamie, frantically hunts for his son across a rotted Britain. THE PROS Nia DaCosta taking over the director’s chair is a win; she brings a fresh, dreamlike horror aesthetic that complements Alex Garland’s heavy script. The tension within the Jimmy cult is epic—Jack O’Connell plays the leader with a terrifying blend of charm and cruelty that makes every scene punchy. The relationship between Dr. Kelson and the infected Samson is surprisingly emotional and adds a layer of depth we haven't seen in the franchise before. It’s a good movie because it finally pays off that massive cliffhanger with a brutal, high-stakes expansion of the world. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the "satanic cult" vibe might feel like a bit of a damp squib for fans who just wanted more straight-up zombie carnage. The pacing in the middle act feels slightly sluggish as it focuses heavily on Kelson’s medical theories and philosophical debates. It misses a higher mark because some of the supporting "Jimmies" feel like one-dimensional caricatures, and the sheer volume of plot threads means the ending feels like another setup for the third part of the trilogy. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and highly recommended for those who want their horror with a side of social commentary. It’s a winner for the performances and the shocking return in the final act.
