⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Tris, Four, and their band of rebels finally scale the massive wall surrounding Chicago to see what’s left of the world. Outside the ruins, they find a high-tech utopia called the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, run by a bloke named David who claims Chicago was just a giant experiment to find "genetically pure" humans. Tris is hailed as the chosen one, but Four smells a rat. As they realize the Bureau isn't the sanctuary they hoped for, they have to race back to stop a memory-erasing gas from wiping out everyone they love in the city. THE PROS This is a win for the fans who wanted to see the world expand beyond the concrete rubble of Chicago. The futuristic tech—like the plasma globes and the sleek "Bullfrog" ships—is a celebratory explosion of sci-fi design that looks punchy and expensive. Jeff Daniels is a total belter as the villainous David; he brings a sincere, calm menace to the role that makes the Bureau feel properly clinical and creepy. It’s a decent watch because the chemistry between Shailene Woodley and Theo James still carries the emotional weight, even when the plot gets a bit of a head-scratcher. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because it suffers from the "Part 1 of a finale" curse—except the second part never actually got made. The pacing can feel a sincere bit sluggish while they’re wandering around the orange-tinted wasteland, and the CGI during the wall-climbing scene is a bit of a damp squib that looks like a video game. It misses a higher mark because it diverges so much from the book that it left fans in a total head-scratcher of a situation. The ending is abrupt and feels unfinished, which is a sincere shame for a series that started so strong. THE VERDICT A 6/10. Decent if you’re already invested in the characters, but it’s a bit of a let-down compared to the first two. It’s not exactly a vault essential, but it’s a good movie for a quiet Sunday if you want to see how the experiment ends—sort of. Go and watch it for the "clean" aesthetic and the flying ships—it’s a belter for sci-fi visuals. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • The Missing Finale: This was supposed to be the first of a two-part finale (originally titled *The Divergent Series: Ascendant*). Because this film didn't do well at the box office, the final movie was binned, leaving the story forever unfinished on the big screen.• Budget Cuts: Despite being a massive franchise, the budget was actually slashed mid-production. If some of the green-screen work feels a bit "off" or the action feels smaller than *Insurgent*, that’s why.• Hair Swap: Shailene Woodley had to wear a wig for this film because she had cut her hair even shorter for another project. The stylists spent hours trying to make it look like her "natural" transition from the previous movie. THE VIBE Like a shiny new gadget that doesn't quite work. It smells like sterile laboratories, orange dust, and missed opportunities. It makes you want to stay inside the wall, trust your gut, and realize that sometimes the "pure" people are the messiest of them all.
