⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Nicolas Cage takes a break from his usual high-energy chaos to lead this grounded, post-apocalyptic thriller. Set in a near-future where society has collapsed, Cage plays Paul, a father raising his two teenage sons on a remote farmhouse. By day, life is peaceful, but once the sun goes down, they have to lock every door and window to survive the relentless, terrifying creatures that hunt in the dark. It’s a survival story that focuses more on the family dynamic and the transition into adulthood than the typical world-ending spectacle, delivering a high-quality blend of tension and unique monster horror. THE PROS Nicolas Cage is a winner here by being surprisingly understated, giving a sincere and protective performance that anchors the first half of the film. The two young leads, Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins, are a legendary shout; their brotherly rivalry and differing approaches to survival feel honest and grounded. It earns a 7/10 because the creature design is a total banger—the monsters are genuinely weird, jerky, and unpredictable in a way that makes the night-time attacks feel unique.
