Overview

Batman faces off against two foes: the schizophrenic, horribly scarred former District Attorney Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, and the Riddler, a disgruntled ex-Wayne Enterprises inventor seeking revenge against his former employer by unleashing his brain-sucking weapon on Gotham City's residents. ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Val Kilmer dons the cowl in this 1995 shift that saw Gotham trade Tim Burton’s gothic shadows for Joel Schumacher’s neon-drenched pop art. We find a brooding Bruce Wayne haunted by his past while facing off against a duo of theatrical rogues: Two-Face, who blames Batman for his scarring, and The Riddler, a disgruntled tech genius obsessed with Bruce. Along the way, he takes in a circus orphan named Dick Grayson and tries to balance his double life with the help of a sultry psychologist. It’s a loud, vibrant, and incredibly fast-paced take on the Caped Crusader. THE PROS Jim Carrey is a total win as The Riddler; he brings a sincere, chaotic energy that feels like a live-action cartoon, chewing the scenery with every single line. The introduction of Robin is handled with surprising heart, and the chemistry between Kilmer and Chris O'Donnell gives the film a decent emotional core. Visually, the movie is a celebratory explosion of production design—Gotham feels like a massive, surreal playground. The soundtrack is a sincere highlight too, featuring tracks that became just as iconic as the film itself. It’s a fun, accessible superhero flick that actually tries to explore the "forever" struggle of being Batman.
